Girlfriends Guide to Fall: DC Metro Area

Pumpkin patches, hot apple cider, haunted hay rides and beautiful foliage are just some of the things we think of when we think of autumn. This season’s perfect crisp weather offers a variety of outdoor options throughout the DMV to allow us to enjoy all while remaining socially distant. No matter your crew there is always something to do in the DMV, so here are three ways to enjoy autumn with your girlfriends, the kiddies or your ‘boo’ thang!


Girls Day Out

One of the luxuries of living in the DMV is being able to view the beautiful autumn foliage once the season really sets in. I know what you’re thinking, “But what about the Cherry Blossoms?”, yes they are lovely too but there’s just something magical about seeing a row of trees peeking in the most gorgeous shades of warm hues on a sunny autumn afternoon. Plus, they make the absolute perfect backdrop for your social media photos! So grab your girlfriends, your favorite pair of ankle boots, a chunky sweater and your bedazzled thermos filled with your DIY café’ latte, and take a stroll through some of these amazing locations listed below.

National Arboretum in Washington, DC

With nearly 500 acres of trees, plants, shrubs and more, the National Arboretum is one of the largest in the country. Due to the current global pandemic, some exhibits are not available to the public however the outside grounds are opened daily from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m

Great Falls Park

This local national park has three overlooks (2 of which are wheelchair accessible) that offer breathtaking views of the falls. Click here to learn more.

Seneca Creek State Park

This park has several trails that encircle Clopper Lake and offers gorgeous scenic views throughout.

If you’re looking for a great social distance outdoor option for the kids this fall then check out your local farm! Many farms are still offering pumpkin picking and mini petting zoos with added safety measures in place to keep visitors safe. Although most farms offer the same attractions, we found a few that added a little something extra to make your day out with the kids unforgettable. So pack a lunch and some hand sanitizer and enjoy the day!

Lastly, for our readers that enjoy a good thrill, we’ve found a couple of attractions that are sure to leave you with goosebumps but beware, these local ghost tours are not for the faint of heart. Grab your ‘boo’ thang and make it a date night but remembers to tuck a small bundle of sage in your purse for added protection.
