ABOUT THE GIRLFRIENDS

who we are and what we're all about.

As you get older and your focus changes, friendships become harder to find especially living in the suburbs. Our first few years living in the Washington D.C. metro area, we had a hard time finding friends because we rarely saw women that looked like us when we were out and about. We eventually found a good set of friends but of course they lived throughout the D.C. metro area. They always wanted to hangout in the city and never in the burbs. You switch jobs, you get married, have kids, and sometimes you just don't feel like driving 40 minutes to an hour to hangout every weekend.

We realized there were plenty of women of color living in Northern Virginia but there wasn't a platform to connect us! That my friends is when Girlfriends In The Burbs was created in 2017. After several women across the country expressed interest in bring GITB to their suburbs we decided to expand our membership outside of the D.C. metro area. We currently have plans to expand to Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans, and Charlotte.

GITB creates the opportunity to meet a group of fabulous women in your own backyard. Some of our members have found out they attend the same church, work together, or live in the same apartment complex. We are a paid monthly membership organization and we host public events to create a friendly positive space to further connect women in the suburbs.

If you are new in town, married or a mother who needs a social life outside your family, or that woman that wants to make connections near you, join Girlfriends In The Burbs at our next public brunches.

Being able to connect with women in real life and share your joys, sad times, and just being able to be yourself is an award in it self.

Sherra, is the driving force behind GITB. She has created over 60 + events within the last year for women of color to meet in the suburbs of Northern VA. It's always a posh vibe with a fun theme at every brunch, girls night out, and member only events. When Sherra isn't planning events she is climbing the corporate ladder in the banking industry or booking girls trips! She enjoys indulging in her top two self-care rituals shopping and traveling.

Co-Founder + Creative Director, instagram

Being an introvert, GITB has brought me out of my shell. I have found a great circle of friends within GITB. We uplift each other, can be bougie & ratchet, and have a great level of respect for one another while building lasting friendships.

Tiffany, is the creative drive behind all of GITB's digital marketing and graphics. She also happens to be Sherra's younger sister. When Tiffany isn't helping planning events she is running her small graphic design studio Brand Bug Studio. She enjoys being a socialite, traveling, having fun with her friends, reading, and curating GITB events.

I recently moved to NOVA from Seattle and was looking for a local support system. Girlfriends in the Burbs is that and so much more. It is a place to girl talk, attend events, meet new people, get dressed up, support the community and even travel as a sisterhood. Thank you GITB for providing me a NOVA Fr-amily.

One’s life has value so long as one attributes value to the life of others, by means of love, friendship, and compassion.

“It can sometimes be difficult to make adult friendships but GITB offers an array of curated events that every woman can enjoy. GITB gave me an outlet where I could engage with like-minded women to network, relax, and recharge.  I have definitely found my tribe!”

GITB has been such a great blessing to my life. I am a mom with two teenagers who are leaving/left the nest soon and I have been looking for a group of like-minded women to socialize with and build a solid girlfriends group. Girlfriends In The Burbs is a wonderful group of women who come from different backgrounds but all with the common goal to come together and form great friendships. I’m so happy I made the decision to join this group!.
